Chrissie Gruebel is a writer and comedian
based in sunny Brooklyn.
Since 2017, she’s been a house writer/performer at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater (Maude Night, Characters Welcome). In better times, you could see her onstage twice a week at Magnet Theater—‘til then: watch for her in various corners of the internet. Together with her longtime comedy group The Mannequin Room, she's performed and taught workshops all over the world including the Copenhagen International Improv Festival, ImprovBoston, the North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival, and the Chicago Improv Festival, where they were featured in Time Out Chicago as a Critic’s Pick ("improvised silliness, genuinely inspired callbacks," is what the review said). They performed regularly at UCBT-NY and have been seen at such legendary venues as the New York Friars Club, iO Chicago, the U.S. Embassy in Copenhagen, and a living room in the Bronx. Here they are in an Improv Everywhere video. Chrissie is also an actor with Story Pirates, an arts-in-education program that creates musical and sketch comedy based on stories written by kids. Her humor writing has been featured on Reductress (“The most brutally truthful comedy site out there" -Wired) as well as the Barnes & Noble book blog. One time, Last Week Tonight writer Josh Gondelman gave one of her pieces a shoutout on The A.V. Club and it was very cool.
